I'm not really sure where to even start with this one.  Carrie and Maureen are college roommates and lovers and Carrie's perfectly satisfied until she catches Steve "Doc" Baumgartner masterbating in the shower.  What follows is a sexfest involving the three of them, but especially Carrie and Doc.

To say that this one was steamy and hot would be the understatement of the year.    This is not a book that you read in the living room with the family all around.  They'll start asking questions about why you're blushing and sweating.  This is a book that requires privacy for reading.

Wild Ride by Juliette Jones

After he steals most of her money and hits her, Lacey leaves her boyfriend (now an ex) with under $200 and a car that badly needs repairs.  When her car breaks down she catches a ride with Riley and Nate, hot cowboy types. 

So.  Yeah.  That's pretty much the plot.  And I'm okay with there not being a huge plot.  Especially when it's a menage story.  Lacey has decided to make some changes in her life and Nate and Riley come along at just the right time.  This one surprised me as it wasn't quite a one night thing, but not really a permanent menage either.  My one complaint would be that the ending seemed a bit too easy, a bit too perfect.

If you like your romances to include a threesome, give this one a try.  This one is a quick read, but spicy and hot.  Give it a try.

In the future...April has been raised in a "religious" community, where things have continued much as they are today. Namely, women are giving birth to babies. Outside of these isolated religious communites, women are done with the pain of child birth. Eggs are painlessly harvested and fertilized. Unfortunately, no one realized that more boys would be born than girls and that the girls would be born frail and weak and worst of all-*gasp*-sterile. So it turns out that the girls from the religious communities are in high demand. And that their parents are greedy enough to auction the girls off to the highest bidders (yes, that's right, bidders-plural). After all, who else is going to repopulate the earth?

April's father is looking to get remarried and has decided that the best way to get the money he needs for his new life is to auction April off. Although he is kind enough to set some restrictions. She can only be sold to a group of four or less men (bless his heart, five men just might have been too overwhelming for the little virgin) and that she must actually be married to one of them.

Bill, John, David, and Steve decide to pool their money together so they can purchase April. Then they set up a very formal business arrangement, contract and all. April will live with Bill (since he is putting in more money to start with-at least I'm pretty sure that's why) and he will provide for her. Each of the other 3 men will get one hour with April every night. That's right, every night. Any daughters that are born will be sold at auction with the proceeds divided between the men.

They buy April and proceed to pass her around that first night. Bill is nice enough to hire a masseuse for April the next morning, because he wants her to be ready for the night. They send her from one room to the other, night after night. And April is completely okay with it. Mainly because Bill has a hired chef who serves her shrimp and lobster and other dishes that she's never had before.

They're all starting to fall for each other and everything goes well. The men decide to update their contract to say that they will not auction off their daughters and will let them choose who they wish to marry. But before the new contract is even signed, April hears that's it's not uncommon for the daughters of their kind of arrangement to be auctioned off and she discovers the original contract that the men had signed. So she runs away (what else is a heroine who, up to this point, has been spineless supposed to do?). Of course, she ends up pregnant and, of course, the men find her shortly before she delivers. And everybody is happy once again.

I really was looking forward to reading this one. I love futuristic menages. But this one went wrong for me right off the bat. April is so meek. She never complains when her dad tells her he's auctioning her off. And once the men buy her, there's not ever a period of time when she is upset about it. Then you have the men. I just couldn't get past the fact that they were so business about it. They started off as asses and never really changed throughout the story.

The sex scenes were plentiful. After all, the poor girl had 4 men to please each night. And I suppose they could be considered hot, although for me the formulaic approach that April had to take (first Bill, then John, then David, then Steve, and finally back to Bill) made everything feel so cold. Nothing was ever spontaneous.

The only positive I can give this one is that it is short. But if I were you, I wouldn't waste my time.

Note: These Beyond books really need to be read in order.  I think you'd be pretty lost trying to jump in at this point, but don't worry, they're worth your reading time!

Rachel has had a thing for Ace since she first met him, but when he kept pushing her away, she fell for Cruz.  When she and Cruz broke up, she found herself with feelings for both Ace and Cruz.  To top it off, she watches Ace and Cruz circling their attraction for each other.  So it seems inevitable that they'll see what happens when the three of them come together.

This was a very hot book.  It was also very intense.  It also turned out to be the kind of story that felt one way when I was reading it, and a different way.  When I was reading it I was totally absorbed and enjoyed it.  When I was done and thought back on it, I had some issues.

So here goes.  I loved the heat and intensity between the three of them.  I loved that it's a menage that goes every which way - the guys have a thing for each other as well as for Rachel.  The way their relationship develops and their individual issues all seemed very believable to me.  The O'Kanes just accepted their triad relationship with no qualms, and that was very cool.  I really enjoyed their story!

But then after I finished and thought back on it... there were things that bothered me some.  Probably the biggest one is that their triad relationship is the first one ever mentioned in the series.  They were the first, but no one blinked an eye.  It seemed like there would have been some blowback about it.  I mean, these are the O'Kanes, so obviously they're down with pretty much anything.  It would have made more sense to me to either mention that this had been done before or to have to do a little more groundbreaking work.  I also felt like the ending was a little rushed.  I would have liked a HFN rather than a HEA in this situation, because they all had a lot of issues to work through and not much time together.

However, I think all of this is colored by where the series is going.  It's become a bit more complicated and political.  This absolutely make sense, and it's clearly where the series was headed from the beginning, but I liked the simpler days of the first few books better.  This is definitely a personal issue for me.  I love a good series, but I generally enjoy the first books better because they are simpler.  Because the politics and details are getting more complicated as the series goes on - which they need to do, from a world building perspective - the books now have more of a suspense aspect to them.  There's danger.  The characters' safety is not a for sure thing.  I know that's always been the case, but I saw that more in this book.  In fact, it's getting unrealistic that no one gets killed.  And there's my dilemma.  It's part of why i don't read romantic suspense.  I want things to feel realistic, and when a world is built and I have to worry about everyone's safety, it's not as fun a read for me any more.

All of that is a personal issue for me, and it reflects how I read the book and how I felt about it.  Still, I can say it was a good read and I'll keep reading the series.  There are some teaser chapters building up to future books that leave me wanting to know more!  In fact, I hate cliff hangers, so I'm just pretending like I didn't read the last chapter altogether!  (No worries, the last chapter isn't about Rachel, Cruz, and Ace, it's a cliffie about other characters in the series.)

A final word about what I like.  I will keep reading this series, despite the increased suspense, because I love the strong female characters and the O'Kane society that accepts each person for who they are.  The O'Kanes remind me of an MC (Motorcycle Club) except that their women are valued members of the gang.  I love that!

And now a final, final word... Kit Rocha does self-publishing right!  The book is really well formatted.  The ARC I received was darn near perfect and easily readable on my Bluefire reader app.  They've laid out a pricing plan that benefits the reader who buys in the first month.  So you can buy the book and not worry that next week it will be 99c.  I always know I'm getting a quality product with Kit Rocha!

Kyla is finally ready to get back into the BDSM scene after her Dom passed away 2 years ago. She's not looking for a commitment, so she knows just who she wants to top her for her first time. Sawyer is a Dom well known for his rope work. It's at one of his seminars that Kyla first approaches him. Because neither Sawyer nor Kyla is looking for anything long term, Sawyer agrees to top Kyla and help her ease back into things while at the same time introducing her to other Doms. But, being a romance, we all know that Kyla and Sawyer are destined to be together. The chemistry between the pair is a like a supernova and continues to burn brightly throughout the story.

 

I enjoyed this book. A lot. Usually by the time I am done reading a book, it is filled with tons of highlights and notes, but this one kept me turning pages so quickly that I only managed to make 5 notes. I was that engrossed in the story.

 

I have not read the first book in this series and had no trouble understanding this one. It can definitely be read as a stand-alone. I have added the first book to my TBR pile, as well as adding Gillian Archer to my list of authors to watch. I look forward to seeing what she comes out with next.

Ben was finishing law school out East. Ben had made a promise to his older twin Ranger though. He promised his gruff brother that he would bring a bride home for Ranger to marry. Leaving things to the last minute, Ben purchases a ticket on the bride train heading to Montana, sure he'll be able to find a willing bride for Ranger. What he finds instead is Florence, a well educated, out spoken woman with 2 small children in tow. Everything that Ranger doesn't want in a wife. When one of the children is threatened, Ben marries Florence himself to save the little girl.

So. This book is written by Reece Butler. Right away that's a point in the plus column. I've read every book she's written and continue to wait anxiously for the next release. And it's a marriage of convenience, has children, a menage. Plus, plus, plus. At the same time, this book is screwed up in so many ways, I really shouldn't like it as much as I do (*facepalm* I've reread the thing 4 times already).

 

How is it messed up you ask? Well...Ben is moving to Tanner's Ford Valley, where a menage lifestyle with three men and one woman is quickly becoming the norm. And despite his 3 brothers (book #1) and his sister (book #3) living in menage relationships, Ben knows nothing about it. Next we have the whole thing with Ranger being so grumpy and crotchety and particular that he'd never be able to find his own wife. Then there's Ben, who feels so obligated to his brother that he decides to let Ranger take Florence's virginity rather than doing the deed himself. Yep. You heard me right. Ben and Florence haven't yet consumated their marriage by the time they reach the ranch, so Ben tells Ranger to go ahead and take care of her the first time (he's apparently much more experienced with women than Ben is). Of course, Florence has 2 children with her (who aren't hers by the way). These kids are the perfect soap opera children. Present when they are needed to advance the story.

 

 Conveniently absent (read: away staying with relatives) when they would be in the way otherwise. And let's not forget Patrick. Poor Patrick. Who really seems to be an addition to the story simply to keep the 3:1 ratio of men to women that seems to be required in this series. Patrick is the youngest brother and just feels like an add on throughout the entire read.

 

All that being said, you will notice that I gave the story a B+ rating. Simply because I absolutely am in love with it. Despite all it's WTFery, I have read this book 5 times (the first time, plus 4 rereads). It is one of my favorites in the series, although numbers 1 and 2 are very close.

If you like your historical menages to be filled with strong heroines, hot cowboys, and even hotter sex, (and can forgive the hot mess that sometimes comes with it), give this one a crack.

The Bartered Bride by Reece Butler

Jane is trying to escape an abusive father and an arranged marriaged to an even more vile man. She's stuck at a bar with no way of leaving when Travis and Riley show up. Travis and Riley seem like the only ones at the bar who might not take advantage of her, so she stows away in their truck. While the men are helping Jane get away, can they also help her discover herself?

 

I'm a sucker for cavemen heroes. The kind that can say "You're going to do what I say because I know what's best for you." The kind that are protective and dominant without being abusive. The kind that, quite honestly, can come across as being a huge ass. And Reece Butler does a very good job writing those cavemen heroes I adore.

 

As a heroine, Jane struggles to be independent when she never has had a chance to stand on her own. She's had a lot of terrible things happen in her past and we get to watch as Travis and Riley support her on her journey. We get to see a lot of character growth for Jane.

 

The only complaint that I had with this book was that there was a section in the middle that started to go down a hero-taking-the-place-of-daddy path and a trying-to-fix-the-heroine path. Those are themes that I don't typically enjoy reading, but seemed to be rather short lived in this book. I was quickly able to loose myself in the story after getting past that section.

 

This book met all the preferences I have in erotic menage books. Strong heroes and heroines, character growth, a plot that is fast paced, and scenes steamy enough to fog your glasses. If you enjoy erotic menage with a bit of cowboy, I suggest you give this one a try.

 

An additional note: While this one is considered to be the third book in her Climax, Montana series, it can definitely be read by itself. The first 2 books in this series take place back in the 80s and are worth checking out. If you like historical menage, I'd recommend Reece Butler's earlier Bride Train series.

He is also a Dom, something most people don't know. He's also become bored with the usual subs he's been around. He hardly goes out much less to his Dungeon of choice. One of his friends talks him into going to the Dungeon one night and he sees Brooke.

Brooke is a successful bakery business owner in Dallas. She also knows she's a sub. She wants a relationship with the right Dom. She sees Todd from across the room and brings herself off in front of him. Then she abruptly leaves the club. This starts a cat and mouse game that changes both of them.

This is a short story of two people who find exactly what there looking for in each other. I liked it but didn't love it. A little too heavy on the BDSM stuff for me but it was a freebie so I took a chance. I would read more by this author and this series.

Gabe and Dylan had been assigned to protect Ceci on their last case. Despite being extremely attracted to her, they kept their hands to themselves. But now the case is over and it's time to discover if Ceci feels the same way about them.

 

This book didn't work for me on so many levels. Other than being huge and manly in so many masculine ways, there didn't seem to be anything remarkable or memorable about either Gabe or Dylan. Ceci had so much internal turmoil that it was hard to connect with her. She has what comes across as OCD and is also trying to deal with her self hatred eminating from her ex-boyfriend's suicide. It was more than I wanted to read about.

 

As far as the kink goes with this one, I couldn't decide whether this one was a BDSM read or not. There was some spanking and they did visit a club (which was a disappointing scene for a BDSM reader like me). But neither of the men seemed real dom-like even though Ceci granted them the Dom title simply because they never let her do what she wanted.

 

This book may appeal to fans of the Pleasure, Montana series, but to a Pleasure, Montana virgin (*snort*)like myself, it just didn't work.

They dated in high school until Allie's father was found out as a thief and they left town. Ben has never gotten over Allie. Turns out there was a video made of Ben, Allie and Ben's best friend, Logan when they had a threesome. This video led to Allie losing her scholarship to Texas A&M.

Fast forward fifteen years and Allie is a lawyer who handles property title disputes. Bull's Hollow had part of it's shares held for a unknown heir. Ben and his family think the whole claim is ridiculous and their title insurance company sends in Allie to investigate. Ben and Allie's first meeting after fifteen years is strained to say the least. I won't give anymore plot away but that's the synopsis on how this story starts.

I am a sucker for western romances. I'm also a sucker for second chance love stories. I enjoyed both of the tropes here. What I didn't enjoy was the idea that back in high school a girl engaged in a threesome. I'm not a prude but it's hard for me to buy into it. The suspense of finding out if there was truly another heir was entertaining but I kind of thought my heroine was a slut. This tainted the book for me. I will admit that even though there was copious amounts of descriptive sex in this book that were hot, it still left me a little cold. I don't know if I'll read any more in this series yet.

There was so much to love in If Only. The hot, hot, steamy hot sex scenes. Not one, but two protective Doms. A fiesty heroine struggling to rediscover herself. Visits with favorite characters from prior books. Enough suspense to keep you turning pages. And for those who have read the previous books in the series--a satisfying conclusion to the Harvest Association plot that has run through the last books. Everything I needed to close the book with a happy sigh.

 

The only thing I didn't like was that we had seen Sally with other partners in previous books. And there were some small references made to some of those experiences. I don't like to see the heroine with other partners, but that's just my own preference.

 

If you are into BDSM reads, there's not a series that I would recommend more than Cherise Sinclair's Masters of the Shadowlands. Now that the Harvest Association is over, I can't wait to see what she'll bring us next.

Colters' Gift by Maya Banks

I read the first book in the series (Colters' Woman) for the first time a few years ago. I remember emailing my sister and telling her "yes, the apostrophe is in the right place!" You see Colters' Woman was my introduction to menage and to this day, it remains one of my favorites. I enjoyed the second book just as much. The 3rd and 4th book, eh-not so much. The 3rd because it strayed from the menage aspect and because Max was an ass. The 4th because there wasn't really a central couple, it was more of a family update. So I was cautiously anticipating the release of Colters' Gift because it was going back to the menage aspect and also gave us a romance revolving around a new set of characters.

 

In Colters' Gift we get to follow Lauren, who is recovering from an abusive relationship, on her journey with Liam and Noah. Lauren's brother hired Liam and Noah to protect Lauren, so of course, they fall for her instead. Well, actually, they both protect and fall for her. They are, after all, manly men who don't shirk their duties. There is a fair deal of suspense in this one as well. Suspense is not my cup of tea, so I had to stay up late to finish this one so I could sleep.

 

I appreciate the fact that Lauren's first time with Liam and Noah wasn't perfect. It wasn't filled with magic sparkles and fairy dust. It ended badly, and the characters dealt with it.

 

I quickly got tired of how involved in the story the other Colters (from books 1, 2, and 3) were in this book. While I liked the characters in their own books, suddenly there were 10 extra main characters surrounding Lauren and her men. I found myself having to stop and do a roll call. Is Adam here? Yep. Ethan? Yep? Michael? Nope. He's home with Lily. As this is the last book in the Colters' Legacy series, I understand why they were all present and accounted for, but it was a lot to keep track of and pulled me away from Liam, Noah, and Lauren.

 

One last note. While the heat level for this book is high, I didn't feel it had as high a heat level as the first 3 books.

 

If you have enjoyed Maya Banks's Colters' Legacy series, you are sure to enjoy this one as well. If you haven't read the Colters' Legacy series, I would suggest starting with the first book, Colters' Woman.

Danisa "Dani" witnesses a murder and needs some protection from the killer who has already made an attempt on her life. Enter Sheriff Brady (who went to the same high school as Dani, but the two have been out of touch for years) and his friend and housemate, Lucas. Because who better to protect you than the horny sheriff and his even hornier friend? Not to be out hornied, um...horned? Dani, on the night that she almost dies, remembers to pack her sexy underwear when she's packing to go stay with Brady (who she just re-met earlier that day) and Lucas (who she's never met).

Unfortunately, neither hero worked for me. Brady, a jock that has never grown up, has to be one of the worst law enforcement heroes I've read about. He goes on a dangerous stakeout by himself and moves things around at the crime scene before it's been processed. Now I'm not saying I'm an expert, but I've seen a few CSI episodes-enough to know that both of those are big no-nos.

Lucas was another creature altogether. I found him to be cold and only concerned with satisfying his libido. His speech was almost robotic at times. But the thing that got me most was that he called his dick "him". Now, I'm generally okay with guys having a cute nickname for their most important possession, but for some reason calling it "him" was just too much.

I struggled with the heroine, Dani. I just couldn't connect with her character at all. Her connection to Brady and Lucas was instantaneous and unquestioned. There never seemed to be a time that she asked herself if she was moving too fast.

I really wanted to like this book. I've enjoyed other books that I've read by Melody Snow Monroe before. However, I just couldn't get past the characters to get into the plot.

Obviously, calling it "him" didn't work for me. What nicknames for a guy's member is your favorite? How about your least favorite?

Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Back many months ago when I read the blurb for this book, my heart raced. I'll admit I was a little tentative about a book featuring Styxx, but the blurb says that we only know half of the story. If you don't want to read a review with spoilers stop now.
Here's a little refresher on this very long series. Styxx is the identical twin to Acheron except for the eyes. They shared a womb even though they were not blood related. I'm not going to summarize all the details to Ash's (Acheron) conception and subsequent birth. Just know that Ash was put in a queen's womb who was already pregnant as a way to protect Ash from those who were hunting him. See, Ash is the son of the Destroyer and he can bring an end to the world.
In Ash's book, we learn of his birth and life up until this point. He and his twin, Styxx hated each other. Ash was made to suffer atrocities that no one should suffer, especially a small child. We all developed a hatred so intense for the golden child, Styxx. But in this book, we realize that we only knew Ash's story. Styxx's story was in my opinion even worse. Not only was it over one hundred pages longer but it was almost double the size of Ash's back story. A back story that had me either too stunned to cry or sobbing uncontrollably. I won't say anything more about the back story other than you have to read it to truly know the story and the ultimate betrayals that take place.
The most beautiful part of this book is the love story between Styxx and Bethany. It was so precious and innocent. Styxx is the future king of his country and became a true war hero and a master strategist. His one and only true love was a blind girl who he met when she was fishing.
He didn't realize that his love was really the Goddess of Misery as she didn't realize he was Prince Styxx.
I don't want to give away too much about the book. Just read it even though it is 836 pages long. It moves quickly and I devoured it in less than 48 hours. I'll end this review with my favorite quotes from the book.

Even if it meant coming back from the dead, he wouldn't be stopped and he would never again live without his most vital part. Bethany.

Here's the run down.  Nikki is alone.  All alone.  Her brother actually just skipped town after bringing a huge truck and emptying her house out.  So not only does she not have anyone left, she doesn't even have a mattress to sleep on.  Dillon has know Nikki since high school and liked her for just as long.  In fact he even got in a fight with his foster brother Brett over Nikki.  When there's the slightest chance that her brother's friends might come back and try to get more money from Nikki, Dillon jumps on the excuse to get Nikki to stay at his house with him.  Oh, and he just happens to have a mattress there too.

Brett is attracted to Nikki.  But he's terrified that if he pursues her, he'll lose his best friend, Dillon, and the only family that has ever cared about him (Dillon's family).  So he backs off.  But despite doing his best to ignore his attraction, Nikki notices.  And she's torn.  She's attracted to both men, but doesn't want to ruin their friendship.  Could there possibly be a way for everyone to get what they want?

 

The relationship between Dillon and Nikki and Brett was deep and complex.  You keep rooting for it to work for them.  They actually talk about the important things, rather than just assuming everything will magically work out.  The sex scenes were scorching hot and I wasn't ready for the book to end when it did.  I wanted to know more about this trio and their future.

 

My only complaint was that Dillon and Nikki have a relationship before the triad comes together.  Now this is just a personal preference of mine, but I appreciate my menages starting and ending together.  However, the author wrote the addition of Brett very well.

 

Leah Braemel has written a menage with strong characters that I will definitely be rereading.  I also look forward to reading some of her other works.

This is a collection of flash fiction erotica, or extremely short stories. Most of the time we don't know much about the characters back stories or how they met. There are no beginnings or endings, we are simply there with them at that moment in time. The six stories in this collection range from a hot and sweet after-boot camp reunion to crops and bondage. From strangers to masters and most things in between.

Elene Sallinger's writing seared the pages and left my Kindle smoking. It felt like the stories were excerpts from books rather than just a collection of random scenes. My only complaint is that I now have six stories worth of characters that I want to know more about.

This was my first time reading any flash fiction.  It worked well for me as a quick break between book, although for some of the stories I really wanted to know more about the characters' befores and afters.  Have any of you tried flash fiction? If so, what did you think?

Menage Monday -- Bonds of Desire by Lynda Aicher

I have been reading menage and BDSM for a while now. When I run across a book that incorporates both I get a little excited. When I run across one that puts both the BDSM and the menage together like this one does, I walk around with a smile on my face for a week afterwards. Let's see, what can I tell you about this book without sounding too gushy?

First off, the initial chapter is dark and tense and will suck you in and not let you go (it's why I gave this book a high kink level). Tyler, a male escort, has been brought to the Den by a sadistic Dom. And when the scene goes wrong, Seth is the first one to rush to his side. Seth, a co-owner of the Den, has seen Tyler at the Den a few times before and always felt drawn to him. The Den calls Allie, a lawyer, in to council Tyler. Allie feels an immediate pull toward both Tyler and Seth. Allie and Seth take Tyler to the hospital and convince him to recover at Seth's place. Tyler agrees, but he'll only stay if Allie stays as well.

And so we have a set up that places Seth, Allie, and Tyler together in Seth's place. And then the story gets really good. Each of the trio is drawn to the other two. Seth is a Dom, through and through and has never entertained the thought of having 2 subs, until now. Tyler couldn't imagine wanting to be under another Dom after everything he's been through, but there's something so settling about being around Seth and Allie. Allie has been raised to think that anything outside of a vanilla mindset is wrong. So how can she be attracted to not only 2 men, but 2 men who are attracted to each other as well?

I have to say, Allie is the best heroine that I've run across in a long time. The inner turmoil she goes through is soooo realistic. Most of my notes were about agreeing with the feelings she was having. I could completely understand the doubts she had and I appreciated a heroine who was a bit reluctant without being tiresome, or annoying, or whiny.

I also love the relationship that develops during the course of the story. Despite being a co-owner of a BDSM club, Seth is not into pain at all. He doesn't even go for the titles of Master or Sir. Allie is definitely a sub. Tyler falls somewhere in the middle. He's a sub with Seth, but takes on more of a Dom role with Allie.

Perhaps I have been reading too much of the hardcore BDSM books out there right now. But I really enjoyed this more gentle look at a relationship that became more about the connections than the pain. The first two books in this series are more hardcore than this one. But this one could be read completely on it's own with no issues.

I've added an auto-read author to my relatively short list. Lynda Aicher continues to impress me with her characters and storytelling. I'm looking forward to catching up on her backlist and anxiously awaiting book 4 in this series.  I think it's become obvious that I enjoy both ménage and BDSM books.  And when they can be combined?  I'm in heaven  How about you?  Are there any sub-genres that you love to see together?  Cowboy sci-fi?  M/M historical?

Oriana is the spoiled little rich girl daughter of a hockey team owner.  Now, she's not the only child of said hockey team owner.  She has a sister, Silver, a manipulative bitch who is extremely sexually adventurous.  She also had a brother who died, but apparently his dream was to play pro hockey. His death prompted his father to buy the hockey team.  Now her father is all about appearances.  It's important that his life appears hunky-dory at all times.  His daughter Silver has caused some problems in the past, problems that he's dealt with by caving in.  And in turn Silver has learned that manipulation is the best way to deal with dear old dad.  Oriana, however has done her best to be the perfect daughter.  She's even dating the team coach, Paul, a real douche of a guy.  But when she catches Paul cheating, she decides to walk away.  Daddy-o however has other plans.  He's been helping Paul hide his affair (father-of-the-year award, ladies and gentlemen) and wants Oriana to pretend it never happened as well.  Otherwise he's going to cut her off, and that means she won't be able to finish med-school.

So this is where it starts going all kitty-wompas (is that really a phrase?).  The perfectly logical to solution to Oriana's dilemma is obviously blackmail (I mean it worked for her sister).  The assistant coach Tim helps her come up with the idea (because apparently someone going to med school isn't smart enough to figure this one out on her own).  Oriana is going to go into the bathroom at the arena with 5 of the players and then Oriana is going to leave the bathroom wearing only a jersey.  So the security cameras will show that she got down and dirty with 5 of the team players, when actually, she didn't.  Pretty straight forward, right?

 

Except apparently she has some feelings for one of the players Max, and he likes to watch other people having sex.  And Max has a thing for Oriana, and watching Oriana with all his buddies.  And somehow the security footage just doesn't come out conveying the message that they want it to convey.  So they'll have to do it again.  But this time, it will be at the boys home (all 5 players share a house) and this time they'll actually do it.

So this is what bothers me about this book.

1. The warning in the Kindle store for this book reads "This ebook contains material not suitable for readers under 18.  In also contains scenes that some may find objectionable, including BDSM, ménage sex, bondage, anal sex, sex toys, double penetration, voyeurism, edge play, and hockey equipment being used inappropriately."  I read the warning before downloading the book, so I felt I was fully prepared.  However I was a little shocked to discover that the ménage sex they were talking about was actually with all 5 players (even though there are only 2 guys shown on the cover).
2. I found it extremely hard to figure out who was who.  Each player was know by both their first and last name, although never at the same time.  So I was constantly wondering if Dominik was the same person as Vanek or was he maybe Mason?  And maybe the sex scenes would have worked more had I knew who was where and doing what.  Maybe it would have felt like there was more of a connection between the characters.
3. I really feel like Oriana felt like this was a perfectly viable option.  Crap, Dad's gonna cut me off and I really want to finish med school, so I guess a gang bang is the perfect solution.  Seriously!?  Ever heard of student loans?  Or maybe scholarships?  I'm kind of thinking I wouldn't want her as my doctor because she doesn't actually really seem that smart.
4. I read to the 37% marking (and there are a few previews at the end, so I was actually more than 37% into the story).  And I think there's a huge case of too many Doms in the kitchen, or I guess that should be the dungeon.  All 5 players were Doms?  Well, except maybe TJ, he just seemed to be along for the ride.

The thing is, I'm okay with BDSM, and I'm okay with ménage (I'm actually okay with everything else listed in the warning).  I've even read a fair share of large group ménage (I think 9 people involved is the most I've read though).  But this one just felt off for me. It left me feeling dirty, but not in a good way.  Part of me feels like I need to finish the book.  Maybe it will get better.  It has quite a few good reviews.  But most of me is just glad that I didn't waste any money on this one (it was a freebie).

 

 

Menage Monday - Bodyguards of Pleasure by Melody Snow Monroe

When computer store owner Brooke witnesses a murder, she barely escapes with her life.  And the killer is still after her.  The sheriff pairs her up with Gavin and Riley.  Gavin and Riley are part of a detective agency and will act as Brooke's bodyguards.  Gavin, Riley, and Brooke go to Brooke's house and discover that someone has already broken in.  The only option is to take Brooke home with them.  Brooke has spent her life concentrating on her academics and her business but after her close brush with death, she decides it's time to start living life.  And the fact that she's alone with her two bodyguards and there's bondage equipment and toys in the basement...

 

So here's the thing.  I really, really liked this book.  Probably more than I should.  Like I know that a soap opera is probably not the greatest acting on earth, but I still just love it.  The slightly overweight heroine.  The masculine and assertive heroes.  The killer on the loose.  And all that follows.  I loved it all.

 

Gavin and Riley were hot by themselves, and hotter together.  And Brooke.  For once a heroine that is smart and actually acts like she's smart.  She reacts to things logically instead of emotionally-which appears to be a big help when you're on the run from a killer.  And I loved that she stayed true to her character.  It wasn't "I'm really smart and logical" one minute "and now I'm screaming like a girl" the next. 

 

This is the first book that I read in the Pleasure, Montana book (and I had no problem following along), and now I want to go back and read the rest of them.  I think I'm a closet addict of Siren Publishing.  Especially their Menage Everlasting line.  I smile my way through each of them that I read.

Beyond Pain by Kit Rocha

We generally only put up one review each day, but I loved this book so much (and I don't want to shuffle the rest of our reviews!) so I'm putting it up as a second review today!  One of my favorite reads of the year so far!  ~Anne

Six was abused and discarded by the former leader of Sector 3. Bren has been looking after her since she first arrived. He's gets her like no one else in the O'Kane gang does. And because he gets her, he knows he can't make a move until *she* is ready. She's got to heal some and find the parts of herself she lost in Sector 3. This book is the story of what happens when Six is ready, and it's awesome!

For all the action that happens and the continuing story arc of the politics in Eden and the sectors, this is a low conflict story (my favorite!) about the developing relationship between Six and Bren. And, oh, is that relationship sweet and hot!

I'll get this out of the way right away... sex between Bren and Six is scorching. There's one particular scene that involves the two of them watching Lex, Dallas, and Rachel... I have no words. There are also a lot of scenes between just Bren and Six and I love that you can see their relationship grow with each encounter.

As much as I liked the sex, I think my favorite part of the book was the strength shown by all the O'Kane women, but especially Six and Lex.

"There was a secret in these women that went deeper than the ink around their wrists, and sometimes she thought if she watched for long enough, she could unlock it for herself." (p.8)

Lex has been strong throughout the series. We get to watch Six come into her own. We get to see how the O'Kanes truly value each member for the assets they bring to the gang. So when Six figures out what she wants to do, even though it's not something an O'Kane woman has done before... well, they stand behind her because they recognize it's something she would excel at. And this happens more than once! Very cool.

When you take this gang and it's leadership that value women on an equal level with their men, and then you add in the sexual freedom and openness... well it's just awesome! Seriously , this is a world where it's ok for a woman to want sex, and to want as much of it as she'd like. No slut shaming. It's incredible! And the writing is so strong, it's easy to believe in it.

Another thing I loved in this story is that when one of them goofs up and things go bad between them, they both are hurt but strong, and it's not easy for them to get back together. Because the characters feel so real, their hurts feel real and it takes some work for them to repair their relationship.

This is book 3 in the series, and it would be best if the books were read in order. (Start with #1, Beyond Shame.) Each book is the story of the main couple, but there are several story arcs going on, and the book will be appreciated so much more if you've read the others.

If I have any disappointments in this book it's that there were a couple scenes I'd hoped to see in this book that weren't there. [ we didn't get to see Six's induction ceremony (drinking in) and we didn't get closure with Miller yet (hide spoiler)] I hold out hope that we'll see both these things in another book, though! I'm also excited to learn more about other characters. Emma and Noah, of course, along with the whole tangle of Rachel/Cruz/Ace. There's also a stripper in Sector 3 who Six pointed out as being really intelligent. I want more of her!

I highly recommend this series!!
