This is the third installment in Jennifer Seasons' Diamond and Dugouts series.

Leslie Cutter has always had horrible taste in men. One knocked her up in her teen years, one ruined her name by embezzlement and the latest is a player on and off the field. He's also her brother's best friend and the starting pitcher for the Denver Rush. The book starts off years ago in Miami after her ex leaves the country after the embezzlement fiasco. After a drunken night, she and Peter Kowalskin have a sexual encounter, not full blown but an encounter nonetheless.
Peter can't go through with it and leaves, causing an already insecure woman to doubt herself even more.

Peter is battling his own demons. He is retiring at the end of the season due to a degenerative eye disease and he wants a World Series win to go with it. He regrets not sleeping with Leslie years ago in Miami and wants another chance with her. He offers his place to stay after the building he owns that she lives in has a flood. He makes a wager with her. He will play guitar at the nightclub she manages and help her buy it if she can NOT sleep with him until after Halloween. Leslie jumps at the chance because this is her opportunity at self redemption. She can't lose, right?

I thought this was a cute read. A lot of sexual chemistry and sexy scenes. Only one full blown one though, which was disappointing. There were very good secondary characters and I hope they all have a book. My only complaint was that I wished it was as hot as Jaci Burton's sports series.

Julia Quinn, Julia Quinn! Why do I always push your books to the bottom of my to be read pile, only to be put in my place time and time again by your wit, writing and story telling? I don't know.
Hugh Prentice made a terrible decision in his younger days and has paid the price ever since. He challenged his friend to a duel and it left both men changed mentally and physically. Hugh has a lame leg and he shot his friend in the shoulder. His friend was exiled by Hugh's evil father until Hugh could figure out a way to bring him home. Hugh is very clever and quite obsessed with figures and sums.

Lady Sarah Pleinsworth wants to marry, not only to love but to escape having to play in the family quartet. She's a Smythe-Smith and that's what the unmarried females in her family do. The only way to escape it long term is to marry or die. She can't stand Hugh Prentice because of all that she and her family have lost due to him.

These two polar opposites made me laugh so hard. I mean laugh out loud laugh. Belly laugh! It was such a delight to watch them to fall in love. Despite their families' problems these two realized that sometimes the best things in life are right in front of you. If you haven't read Julia Quinn, you really should.

Issy is a rugby player hoping to move up from her small team to a more competitive one.  She's surprised when her new coach is her long time crush Tyler.  He proposes a month of hot sex between them and she takes him up on it, hoping he'll be hooked on her and want to stick around until the month is over.

This one just didn't work for me.  The writing was hot, but the pacing of the relationship felt rushed. (I know, I know, it's a novella, but still!)  I think the sex was well written, but the plot was weak and Tyler was kind of a douche.

Christian has been accepted into a teaching school that has strict requirements for their students' dress and behavior, both in school and out. Christian is walking on egg shells because he's pretty sure if anyone finds out he's gay, he'll get kicked out of the program. Max is one of Christian's new housemates. Despite the fact that Max didn't want Christian as a housemate, Christian finds himself drawn to Max. But Max is a mystery. No one knows what he does for a living or even what his last name is. When Christian's aunt gets too sick to work at the porn store she owns, Christian finds himself offering to help out. But working at a porn store could definitely get him kicked out of the teaching program if anyone found out. Can Christian manage to keep so many secrets without losing Max in the process?

It always amazes me when an author can hold my attention when their characters are being such idiots. Christian has his head so far up his ass that he doesn't see that he's losing himself in order to become a picture perfect teacher. Luckily, Max is there and not afraid to tell Christian what's what.. But even through all of Christian's obliviousness, I kept turning the pages. Even when Christian pushes Max away because he doesn't fit the perfect teacher mold, I kept turning pages. I'm not a huge fan of "I've got a secret or ten" plots. I prefer that the characters actually talk to one another. But despite all the secrets, this one worked for me. I got the need for the secrets in this case. Thankfully, the ending pulled everything to a happy conclusion, all wrapped up with a bow.

I look forward to reading more of Heidi Belleau's strong characters, emotional plots, and page scorching love scenes in the next book in this series. Now if I only had more time to catch up on her backlist.

When Lizzie steps out of a friend's wedding reception and into a hotel bar, she realizes the handsome older man at the bar thinks she's a "high class call girl."  It's an exciting prospect to consider and she decides to play along.  It's even more exciting when she realizes it will give her a chance to try out some BDSM play.

John is so fascinated by the strangely innocent prostitute he picked up in the bar that he makes her offer - be with him every night during his business trip and he'll pay her handsomely for her exclusive services.  Neither of them expects to fall for the other.

This was a solid, well written book that was also really hot!  I enjoyed it and was totally drawn in, wondering what would happen next.  Though the story is told from both points of view, we know Lizzie's secrets from the beginning but know nothing of John's other than that he has secrets.  The main conflict in the story is what will happen when they are open with each other?

I was fascinated at how this played out.  It made me think about what it means to be a prostitute.  Lizzie doesn't think she is one, because she doesn't intend to keep John's money and because she'd willingly do what he wants without it.  She's quite swept away by him, even though she's trying not to fall in love.  Even though not every secret is spelled out in great detail, I felt like The Accidental Call Girl had a very satisfying HFN ending with confidence that an HEA would follow.

I was surprised when writing up this review to realize that this book is the first in a same couple trilogy.  I generally shy away from those, but I have to say this book stands on it's own very well.  It has that wonderful fine balance of leaving you interested to know what happens next, while leaving you full of hope for the couple.  I very much appreciate the NON-CLIFFHANGER ending!

I've read short stories by Portia Da Costa before and enjoyed them.  How delightful to find out she's an author who can write well in short and long form!!

So, I've read stories where the male character is a prostitute, but this is my first with the female in that role.  I think it was highly romanticized (a la Pretty Woman) but it was good.  How about you?  Have you found a romance with a prostitute as a main character that you enjoyed?  Or does that not work for you?

Charlie and Walker were friends in high school when geeky Charlie tutored the very popular Walker.  They went their separate ways, but now they have apartments across the hall from each other and they are both recovering from awful on the job experiences that ended with being fired.  Neither has troubles starting a new job, and neither is admitting to anyone that anything bad happened.  It's like a high school reunion.  I'm great!  I'm so happy!  I just moved on to a wonderful job!

The attraction that had simmered between them in high school flares up again and now they are adults free to act on that attraction.  Neither is looking for anything long term, so it all should be great, right?

This was a good story.  I thought the characters were unique and more flawed than I'm used to reading.  They were each hiding the truth of themselves from the other, which bordered on annoying.  However, this set up worked for me.  They were both so embarrassed about their pasts because they were responsible for the poor choices they'd made.  This made for more angst than I usually like to read, but, again, it really worked in this story.

Walker is a really refreshing hero in a genre that seems full of billionaire CEOs and over achievers.  His life is simple, in part because he doesn't think he can achieve more, and in part because that's how he likes it.  Walker does make some changes over the course of the book, but the changes are motivated by his own happiness, not out of a desire to impress someone else.

Charlie was interesting, too.  A security expert who wasn't a strong physical force.  She specializes in out-thinking criminals and setting up monitoring systems.  The situation she finds herself in on her new job - feeling like she's being watched every moment of the day - was really creepy!  (Although I should point out that I'm not a huge suspense fan, so even a little bit of it is creepy to me!)

I think one of my favorite parts of the book was that their personal growth was in parallel, and not caused by the other person being in their life.  Even when Charlie tries to interfere with Walker, he's not going to move on things until he's ready.  I enjoyed that as opposed to magic sex that heals all wounds!

I thought the ending was a little too hearts and sunshine with respect to their careers, but I REALLY appreciated that the wedding in the epilogue wasn't theirs.  They still have issues to work through, in my opinion, but you leave the story sure that they will work things out.  This was an enjoyable and funny contemporary romance!

Jill Shalvis is an amazingly dependable writer!  This is another great story.  There's tons of humor, along with the Lucky Harbor cast we know and love.  I think this book would stand on it's own just fine, though.

Leah is a pretty damaged heroine - well, her self esteem is damaged due to her father's emotional abuse while she was growing up.  I would have felt better if she'd started seeing a therapist during the course of the story - she's really got issues!  Jack had his own problems, but they never seemed as big as hers.

I loved the set up with the two of them fake dating to give Jack's mom a little boost.  Everything about that was funny.  The ending was a little over the top, but it didn't ruin anything, and it left me wanting to know a lot more about Ben and Aubrey!

Wow! So much went on in this book for me. Roarke and Eve's relationship evolving, I got to meet Peabody, more Pheeney (spelling?), a new commissioner of police, a good whodunnit and a little Mavis thrown in for fun.

I really am enjoying this series and am still grateful for Anne, Doris, Anna and Holy's suggestions to read this series. I really liked the mystery, wondering who the killer was. Was the elder Angelini or the younger one? Or possibly the future son- in- law? This world that Robb has created is very interesting and entertaining. It got me heart pumping with the suspense and is surprisingly at times, terrifying with it's scene descriptions.

It ended with a marriage proposal and I'm very interested to see how Eve handles this. I have the third audio book on reserve at the library and hoping it comes in today so I can get it and start it!

Danisa "Dani" witnesses a murder and needs some protection from the killer who has already made an attempt on her life. Enter Sheriff Brady (who went to the same high school as Dani, but the two have been out of touch for years) and his friend and housemate, Lucas. Because who better to protect you than the horny sheriff and his even hornier friend? Not to be out hornied, um...horned? Dani, on the night that she almost dies, remembers to pack her sexy underwear when she's packing to go stay with Brady (who she just re-met earlier that day) and Lucas (who she's never met).

Unfortunately, neither hero worked for me. Brady, a jock that has never grown up, has to be one of the worst law enforcement heroes I've read about. He goes on a dangerous stakeout by himself and moves things around at the crime scene before it's been processed. Now I'm not saying I'm an expert, but I've seen a few CSI episodes-enough to know that both of those are big no-nos.

Lucas was another creature altogether. I found him to be cold and only concerned with satisfying his libido. His speech was almost robotic at times. But the thing that got me most was that he called his dick "him". Now, I'm generally okay with guys having a cute nickname for their most important possession, but for some reason calling it "him" was just too much.

I struggled with the heroine, Dani. I just couldn't connect with her character at all. Her connection to Brady and Lucas was instantaneous and unquestioned. There never seemed to be a time that she asked herself if she was moving too fast.

I really wanted to like this book. I've enjoyed other books that I've read by Melody Snow Monroe before. However, I just couldn't get past the characters to get into the plot.

Obviously, calling it "him" didn't work for me. What nicknames for a guy's member is your favorite? How about your least favorite?

Trace Weston is a former black-ops soldier, foster child and now a billionaire security specialist. Don't let the billionaire thing turn you off. It totally worked in this book. He met Skye Sullivan in one of his foster homes and he saved her from an attempted rape. The two of them fell in love then. Then Trace disappeared for ten years. Skye went looking for him when she was being stalked and Trace helped her.

In this book it's someone from Trace's past in the military that is stalking them both. This book continues their love story and their struggles to overcome their pasts. Secrets are everywhere here. Skye wants Trace to open up about his past and he doesn't want to for fear that she can't handle the darkness that lives inside him if he tells her.

A lot went on in this story. Love, action, plot twists, new character introductions, heart pounding suspense and tons of hot sex. Really hot sex. Cynthia Eden has really hit her stride with this book. I simply can not wait until the next book comes out!

Kitty's father did some very bad things that Kitty was aware of but didn't stop, although all those things were not discussed in this book.

In this future you can be a prostitute as long as you're licensed to do so. What makes the case more interesting is that the victim was shot with a gun from our current time period. Guns are outlawed in the future. Only serious collectors have them, which leads her to Roarke as a suspect.

Roarke is a very wealthy man with a collection of 20th century guns and he is friends with family of the deceased. They became best friends, then friends with benefits and when he had to marry, she was the logical choice. He had to marry and she needed stability for her and her son.

There was also suspense which dealt with her abusive ex-boyfriend and he kind of lifestyle he led. You were kind of on the edge of your seat waiting for him to show and cause chaos. He was a very bad guy. I was irritated with some of Ash's choice regarding her safety but watching the two of them fall for each other and their acceptance of that was wonderful to read. This one is only 46 pages long and I worry that if I write my own synopsis, I might give too much away. So, here is the blurb from NetGalley.

"History grad James Sheridan thinks his biggest problem in life is trying to find a suitable outfit for his upcoming Ph.D. candidacy exam. That is, until he accidentally texts a changing-room selfie meant for his fashionable sister to his ex, the domineering Professor Carson. James and Carson haven't seen each other since James fled their power games two years ago. Back in his undergrad days, Carson was his Professor, and not just in the academic sense: a man of unusual tastes and extreme sexual demands, James had been happy to sate Carson's savage appetites. Too happy, in fact. He never could trust himself not to let Carson push too far. Now James is older and wiser, and sharing some seriously flirtatious vibes with a cute menswear rep. When Carson replies to James' errant text, ready to pick up where they left off, James can't help being drawn back into Carson's control. It's only when Carson suggests involving the salesman that James has to ask himself how far is too far, and whether he's willing to go there with Carson again."

What I truly find amazing is that the authors have managed to write such an entertaining, hot, and steamy read without the main characters ever being in the same building. The writing is very sharp and I loved the back and forth texting. I was glad to discover that there's a second book, An Inch At a Time, coming soon, because I definitely want more of James and Carson.

I really liked the texting back and forth in this book. Does anyone have any recommendations for other books that involve texts, emails, or letters as a main part of the story?

The Cast

Justin: Ass-hat who lost a bet and had to pretend he was Brett for a weekend-and while he was at it, decided to sleep with Kat as Brett. Son of the wealthy Slade family.

Brett: Justin's soldier buddy who died in the line of duty, was raised by his Aunt Mattie. Had never met, much less slept with Kat.

Kat: Slept with Brett (who was really Justin), then found out she was pregnant. Was raised in an extremely poor and abusive household. Wants better for her son. A reformed gold digger. Currently living with Aunt Mattie.

Aunt Mattie: Brett's aunt. Lost her husband and her nephew-both had been in the military. The news of her nephew's death caused a heart attack, leaving her in a fragile health state.

Connor: Young son of Kat and Justin. A model baby, always sleeping when the story requires it.

The Plot

Justin returns home after his stint in the military is finished. He heads over to Brett's aunt's house to confess his guilt over Brett's death. When he arrives, he discovers Kat living there with Connor, the son he didn't know about. Aunt Mattie believes Connor is her nephew's son. Kat pleads with Justin to not reveal Connor's paternity as Aunt Mattie's health is too fragile to handle such a blow. Justin reluctantly agrees, but demands to be a part of Connor's life.

This was a book about secrets. Everyone seemed to have at least one huge skeleton in their closet. Starting off with Justin's "Brett's not my name" secret, it was just one secret after another.

It was also a book about money. How having money or not having money can lead to different motivations. Justin is not afraid to throw his money around. Kat struggles to not chase after money.

Secrets and money are not a good combination for me. I can handle one or the other, but when you put them together, it gets too soap opera-ish for me. And that's what this book read like. A soap opera. The characters seemed a bit like stock characters. A hero with money and a secret. Check. A heroine with a secret and no money. Check. I just couldn't connect with either of them and their conflict didn't pull me in either.

Obviously, secrets and money don't work for me as a combination. Do you have any combinations that don't work for you, but are okay individually?

This is the fourth book in the Bondage & Breakfast series, but the first book that I've read. I was able to easily follow the story without having read the first three. However, this book did make me want to go back and read the first books.

The relationship between Gabe and Olivia was constantly changing, and I loved the ebb and flow of it. It wasn't one of those books where the hero knows what he wants on page 3 and we wait for the heroine to adjust and change and become what he wants,or vice versa. Gabe and Olivia both changed a bit themselves in order to meet in the middle.

This was my first read by Jodie Griffin, but it will not be my last. I look forward to reading the first three books in this series and can't wait to see what she comes up with next. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a low conflict (no villains) milder (restraints, flogging, anal play) BDSM story.

This started out a little rough for me. I had to push myself forward. I am glad that I did because this turned out to be a really good book.

There's this private military group called Titan. They help when the regular military can't. The mission in this book was to retrieve a disc that had human trafficking information on it. Colby Winters (from Titan) was sent to get it and he ended up with a whole lot more. Mia Kensington is a therapist who was fulfilling a client's last wish, which was to retrieve that same disc. She ends up kidnapped by a mountain of a man. A man she thinks is really hot but very dangerous.

I really liked both of the characters in this story. Colby was very alpha and Mia was a firecracker. I also enjoyed the secondary characters too. As a suspense fan, I was in heaven when the action really got going. There were some steamy love scenes also. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.

I have been waiting to read this for a looong time and I'm so glad I did! Remington is an underground boxer who was a pro but now is fallen from grace. A true and total bad boy, in every sense of the word. He sees Brooke before one of his matches and becomes fixated on her. Brooke sees Remy and thinks he's the sexiest man she's ever seen. He needs her to do something for him and this starts a beautiful but not traditional love story.

As I was reading I was intrigued and a little aggravated by the pacing of this book at first. I kept thinking that with all the sexual tension going on that surely someone would have sex soon. You so have to wait until about 55% into the story for the sex but it is so worth it. This is a very dirty book and I ended up liking it a whole lot.

It is a story of unconditional love and what that really means. It's also about a pure love that gives you a goofy smile on your face and makes your heart full. When you learn Remy's secret you'll love him even more. This is an on going series (which is not my favorite thing) but I will be here awaiting each and every book.

I went into this thinking the collection would be about voyeurism, which wasn't the case with every story.  They had more to do with being on display/exposed, though there was some voyeurism.  The first two stories were ok. I LOVED the 3rd one by Christina Thatcher.  The fourth one started off great but then gave me book rage. So, it was a mixed bag for me.

R is for Reality by Ginny Glass is about a camera woman who convinces a cab driver to come audition for a part to get her out of hot water.  Their chemistry was good, but I was surprised by the pacing of the story, which jumped over large gaps in time.  Overall it was just ok for me. (C)

S is for Scandalous by Emily Cale had the exact opposite pacing problem for me.  I felt like I had mental whiplash due to how fast the characters' relationship moved.  Kacey takes a job where she will lie nude and be the serving platter for a meal of sushi.  Austin shows up and recognizes Kasey.  He goes to see her after the meal when she is changing.  Even though their teenage friendship/crush didn't survive Austin leaving for college, they pick up like they'd spent the intervening years dreaming of getting back together.   And despite the years apart, they act like they know each other extremely well.  It just didn't work for me (C-)

T is for Tango by Christina Thatcher was the standout read in this collection!  Sonia is a secretary at Adam's company.  Once a week he catches her changing clothes... at her desk.  He doesn't know what to make of it, but he's enthralled.  Then he realizes she's doing it on purpose, for him.  This just worked on every level for me.  (B+)

U is for Undone by Maggie Wells started out really promising.  When the power goes out, Alec sees Sophia, a co-worker he's admired.  She's lighting candles in her apartment and taking off her clothes.  He can't help but watch and he's shocked when she makes eye contact with him and he realizes she knew he was watching the whole time!  This beginning worked very well for me.  Unfortunately, what came next was rage-inducing.  I don't want to ruin the story, so I'll just say that Alec was very controlling about how their relationship would move forward.  This frustrated Sophia, but ultimately she doesn't complain and just moves forward in the way Alec dictates.  I felt like Alec was playing mind games with Sophia, but that's not the tone of the story.  I think we're supposed to think it's sweet that he wants to get to know her and take things slow.  It just didn't work for me. Ellis Garret is a plus sized woman who has come to terms with her size.  She's not on a huge life changing diet or quest to get skinny.  She's ok with where she is, but she also knows very well that society thinks she's fat.  An ex-boyfriend was very clear about that.  When he pushes Ellis too far, she dumps him, quits her job, and moves back to her home town to start a clothing shop for women who are hard to fit - plus sized, extra tall, extra short.
Mike Edwards was her college girl crush, but he was only friendly to her - he dated her sister.  He bumps into Ellis at the local coffee shop, and he looks familiar, but he can't remember her.  Ellis could be bothered by his lack of memory, but she' s not.  She finds it funny and teases him, refusing to tell him how she knows him and even knows what kind of underwear he wears.  Mike is used to having women fall at his feet, so he's intrigued by Ellis happily walking away from him after he flirts with her.
I'm not a huge fan of cartoony romance covers, but when I saw this book featured a plus sized heroine, and it DIDN'T sound like it was about dieting, I decided to give it a try. I'm SO glad I did! It was a wonderfully witty story about a woman happy as she is, trying to overcome insecurities she picked up due to past relationships and a man who has never been interested in a long term relationship before. It was funny and sweet and hot. I really enjoyed it.
The dialog is really entertaining.  I especially enjoyed the back and forth between Ellis and Mike.  I love that Ellis doesn't put up with crap or excuses from anyone.  When Mike does her wrong, she calls him out on it and is clear about what he did that hurt her.  The secondary characters are fun to read, too.  Ellis' parents are a hoot!
It did feel like the book was too long. It took too many times hashing through the same relationship problems, and when that happens, it leaves me a little doubtful about their future.  The epilogue absolutely pissed me off, both because it was a change in character and because I thought what happened (and I know it was supposed to be cute) was actually a really crappy way to treat your spouse.
All that said, the good absolutely outweighed the bad for me.  I'll read another book by Sugar Jamison for sure - even if there's a cartoon on the cover!

"That's the thing about love. We often get more than we deserve and isn't that incredibly wonderful?"
Yet another installment of Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold series and I fall more in love with the series every book. This one is about Noelle who runs the Christmas Attic store in town. That's right a store specializing in Christmas 365 days a year. I can't help it, it warms my heart.  Noelle was very sick in the recent past but has overcome it. She lost her mother and grandmother to a auto accident and her fiancé to her illness. She made her way to Fool's Gold and never looked back. She loves the town, townspeople, friends, her store and her home. But she wants her own HEA and watching her friends marry one by one is bittersweet
.
Gabriel Boylan is the brother of Gideon, who settled in the town a couple of years ago. Gabriel is a trauma specialist with the Army. He has worked overseas and had seen enough horror to last a lifetime. After losing his fiancé to a combat related his issue, he decides that he won't ever fall in love again because it hurts too bad to lose someone you love. He comes to his brother's house for the Christmas holiday and meets Noelle.

I so much enjoyed this book because of it's sweetness. I'll admit the ending was a little far fetched for most towns but not Fool's Gold. I can't wait for her next installment. My continued complaint regarding her separate books with this series is that the heat content is totally unacceptable.

Apparently he made a deal with her and she's ready to collect.

Josephina is half human and half Fae. She's the King of the Fae's illegitimate daughter. She was sent to Hell as a punishment for something her half sister, the Princess did. In the Fae society they have blood servants who take punishment for the crimes committed by the royal family. Her treatment at the hands of he family is horrific. She has terrible self esteem issues and has no self worth. She sees Kane, a hero in her land,as her only way out.

If you haven't read this series by Gena Showalter, you are missing out on one of the most entertaining paranormal romance series going today. Her characters are total bad asses and very sexy. I have been waiting for Kane's book and boy was it worth it! These two characters were totally meant for each other. Josephina had self image issues and Kane was always the odd man out with his group of friends because of Disaster. Seeing them acknowledge their shortcomings and their acceptances of them was heart breaking and heart warming all at the same time. You also had multiple story lines going that held your interests just as well as the main one.

I can not wait for the next book, it's about, wait for it,Torin! If you haven't started this series yet, get hooked on this hilariously delightful series. If I had to complain about something it would be the heat level. It seems to have been turned down a little bit from her other books.

This is the second book in this series and I didn't read the first one yet. I probably should've read them in order but honestly you don't have to.

Jake is a former Army Ranger and served in Iraq with his fraternal twin brother, Jesse. Jesse married Raine who grew up with the boys in their hometown. These three got into all kinds of trouble together in their youth. Raine's upbringing was non-traditional, so she enjoyed spending time with the boys and their parents.

When the story begins, you realize that Jesse was killed in action and Jake took a sabbatical from life. He returns home and sees Raine, his brother's widow and the only woman he has ever loved. This story is the telling of their journey to one another.

I've wanted to read the first book in this series since I read about several months ago but at almost seven dollars a book, by an author I wasn't sure about, that's just too pricey. Well, after reading this one, as far as this series is concerned, Juliana Stone is an auto-buy for me now. I loved everything about this book. The characters were so real and the emotion so heartfelt. This was so very much more than a contemporary romance.

This is a story about love and it's healing powers. It's about family and facing a loss in the family. It's about survivor's guilt and the guilt associated with loving someone else after you lose your spouse. It was a story about redemption when it was never needed and the bonds formed through friendship. It was about the acceptance of one's self, even with your faults. This was perfect for me. I just absolutely loved it!

Ian, über-richy rich Dom, is an ass.  He's all about control.  Controlling his business, controlling his employees, controlling every aspect of his life.  He has no time or interest in love.  Francesca, sweet, innocent Francesca is a painter.  She's won a contest to paint a painting for Ian's newest building.  And, being this is a romance, sparks of attraction fly when they first meet.  But despite being in control of his life, Ian can't control the way his thoughts keep returning to Francesca.  So what's a poor controlling Dom to do?  Ian will control everything about their sexual interactions, including when their interludes will end.  He acknowledges that they will both probably get hurt, but he just can't turn away.  In exchange, Francesca will get pleasure and experience.  But just when Ian has reached the pinnacle of asshood, you discover why he is the way he is, and you, along with Francesca, fall in love with him.

I don't think I've ever been so enthralled by such an ass of a hero before, but I really just couldn't stop reading.  Francesca manages to walk that fine line between submission and doormat.  The author does a good job of showing us the torment Ian faces in his relationship with Francesca.  How he's trying to protect his heart and trying to not be a complete ass.

This was originally written and released in 8 separate parts.  I'm glad that I read the complete novel, because I can't imagine having to wait for the next installment to be released.  I'm not of huge fan of serialization as I tend to get sucked in and end up spending too much time and money on the whole series.

Do you have any serializations to recommend?  Are you a fan of the format or not?

Back many months ago when I read the blurb for this book, my heart raced. I'll admit I was a little tentative about a book featuring Styxx, but the blurb says that we only know half of the story. If you don't want to read a review with spoilers stop now.
Here's a little refresher on this very long series. Styxx is the identical twin to Acheron except for the eyes. They shared a womb even though they were not blood related. I'm not going to summarize all the details to Ash's (Acheron) conception and subsequent birth. Just know that Ash was put in a queen's womb who was already pregnant as a way to protect Ash from those who were hunting him. See, Ash is the son of the Destroyer and he can bring an end to the world.
In Ash's book, we learn of his birth and life up until this point. He and his twin, Styxx hated each other. Ash was made to suffer atrocities that no one should suffer, especially a small child. We all developed a hatred so intense for the golden child, Styxx. But in this book, we realize that we only knew Ash's story. Styxx's story was in my opinion even worse. Not only was it over one hundred pages longer but it was almost double the size of Ash's back story. A back story that had me either too stunned to cry or sobbing uncontrollably. I won't say anything more about the back story other than you have to read it to truly know the story and the ultimate betrayals that take place.
The most beautiful part of this book is the love story between Styxx and Bethany. It was so precious and innocent. Styxx is the future king of his country and became a true war hero and a master strategist. His one and only true love was a blind girl who he met when she was fishing.
He didn't realize that his love was really the Goddess of Misery as she didn't realize he was Prince Styxx.
I don't want to give away too much about the book. Just read it even though it is 836 pages long. It moves quickly and I devoured it in less than 48 hours. I'll end this review with my favorite quotes from the book.
"Never once in my life did I feel the sunshine on my skin until the day you touched me."
"And without my Bethany, I dwell in total darkness."
"It's not fair that we're forced to live without them while the world goes on, oblivious to the fact that it's missing the most vital part of it."
"I let go of your hand eleven thousand, five hundred thirty nine years, one hundred and eighty three days and roughly ten hours give or take a few mintues ago."
"You really did count the heartbeats."
"Oh Beth, you have no idea."
This time Styxx knew that nothing would ever separate them again. And if anyone or anything was dumb enough to try they were going to learn the lesson he had given both Archon and Apollo. Styxx of Didymos fought for what he wanted. He didn't back down. He didn't give up. He didn't lose. Even if it meant coming back from the dead, he wouldn't be stopped and he would never again live without his most vital part. Bethany.

Quote of the book for me- "Let me clear. I want you underneath me in my bed. I want to be buried inside you so deep I have to remind you of your own name. And I want those motherfuckers leering at you from the other side of the bar to smell me on you for a week afterward."

Derek is a lieutenant in the Chicago P.D. who is a bit of a control freak. Ginger comes from a very troubled background. They end up being neighbors after Ginger and her sister flee Nashville looking for a better life. Their initial interaction with each other isn't very good because Derek is being a douche. From that point on, this becomes a hotter than fire love story. I loved both people even with their faults and learning about their pasts was both intriguing and heart breaking.

This was my first Tessa Bailey book but not my last. I love a streetwise heroine and a dirty talking hero. Throw in a little suspense with the hot sex and I've found myself a new author! If you haven't read her yet, you should get started.

Raven is a tough tattoo artist who can be very hard to like.  She's got a prickly protective shell that not many bother to work through.  Jonah Warner is a single dad whose only child is growing up and has moved away from home.  He's ready to look for a relationship and Raven intrigues him, and their chemistry is off the charts.

(Here's my favorite quote)
When he got this woman naked they were going to set shit on fire. (p. 28)

OK, disclaimer first, this series is a favorite of mine.  We're talking top 3, maybe my favorite of all time.  So, I certainly went in predisposed to enjoying this book, and it was no surprise to me that I loved it.  I'll try to explain why.

This is a low conflict book.  There's not a lot holding Jonah and Raven apart.  Not much they have to overcome, except Raven's internal issues.  This is my favorite kind of book.  I love the slow but sure journey as they move from instant lust to falling in love.  They talk with each other - so there's no conflict created by their lack of communication.  It's wonderful to watch them grow closer and closer.

This is a well written book.  It's clever and funny in parts.  Hot in parts.  It made my heart ache in parts.  It took me away from everything and made me not what to go back!

This is an extremely hot book.  I think Lauren Dane writes scorching sex scenes, and this book is a great example.  I also really enjoyed that Jonah and Raven came together in a Dom/sub relationship that didn't require a kinky club or anything over the top.  From the moment they started moving in a sexual direction, you could see that Raven liked to be subservient to him.  This is a stark contrast to how she is with everyone else in her life.  Jonah is not an experienced Dom, but he's learning what he likes, and Raven trips all his triggers in a very good way.  I think it was different than other things I've read because it didn't come off like they were playing a scene, more like they were letting their true personalities show, and this was how they clicked together.

I would have liked to see them talk through some of their Dom/sub behavior a bit more.  It's hard for me to buy that they slipped into these rolls so effortlessly.  I certainly think there should be some  amount of discussion before trying a new toy.  That it worked for them so effortlessly and that they never had a problem stepping over each other's boundaries... that was a bit unrealistic for me.

There are some family issues in the book that I don't want to give detail on, as I believe they would be spoilers, but I really liked the way they were handled.  Families are messy and not perfect.  You don't always get a neat and tidy ending.  That's done well in this book.

This book is 6th in the series.  It would probably stand alone, but I think you'd get more out of it by reading the series in order.  Raven has been in every book so far, and she was often in the roll of villain.  Her character is well established and it's consistent throughout the series, including this book.  I love that Dane can take the feisty/prickly/bitchiness normally reserved for secondary characters and KEEP it even when the Raven moves to being the main character.

I highly recommend this book.  It's a Best of 2013 read for me!

Do you have an all time favorite series?  Or are you like me with one or two favorites in each genre?
